Adriana Poli Bortone was born on August 25, 1943, in Lecce, Italy. She embarked on her political career in 1983, serving as a deputy in the Chamber of Deputies for the Italian Social Movement (Movimento Sociale Italiano) until 1999. After her tenure in the Chamber of Deputies, she went on to represent Italy in the European Parliament from 1999 to 2008.

Recent Political Developments

In the recent local elections held in Lecce in 2024, Poli Bortone emerged as a strong candidate. She secured a significant portion of the votes, coming close to securing 50% of the total. This outcome reflects her continued popularity and influence in Italian politics.

Poli Bortone served as Minister of Agricultural and Food Resources from 2008 to 2013 and later as a Senator of the Republic from 2008 to 2013. Following the Lecce election results, she filed an appeal with the Regional Administrative Court (TAR), indicating that the outcome may still be subject to legal challenges.
